With this release the product code has been re-written and the framework completely revamped. This is the first step of many as we improve the entire system. To the end-user this update will primarily impact the look & feel of the CMS but a lot of important changes were made to the code for the next enhancements we plan to bring.

We did change a few usability features on the list pages. Most are minor and shouldn't impact your use of the system, the biggest change is the Context Menu & Filters.

Context Menus - Use of the Context Menu replaces many of the 'Operations' items displayed previously in the list pages, but they also include new capabilities. The Context Menu will continue to grow in its functionality after the roll-out. To learn more visit our Context Menu help article.

Filters - A few of the lists include Filters (eg. RSVP, Sales). These filter options are now hidden to but appear when the filter is selected. To learn more visit our Filter help article.

We hope you enjoy the new look, shortly we will begin to roll out new features to continue to enhance the CMS and your ability to manage your presence online.

Ugrade to the 3.0.8 TinyMCE WYSIWYG content editor.

We are proud to announce a nice new feature this week, the feed manager. Found under the outreach tab, this tool builds upon the existing iTunes podcast manager. You can still update the title, description and image of your main sermon feed, but now you will be able to add additional feeds. Currently new feeds can be built off of either sermons or articles and can be filtered by category or series. All feeds come with the appropriate tags to integrate with iTunes.

You are now free to create podcasts for a Sunday school class, special event or youth group. Separate news feeds can be created for any segment of your church, any teaching series or just about anything else you can imagine. There will be more updates in this area before long, so stay tuned!

When I came to the land of Monk – on the verge of shedding the swaddling clothes of university, which have since been traded in for a business suit and paisley tie – there were a number of high-profile projects that landed on my (imaginary) desk. It’s not easy being a Rockstar, but in the end it’s all about delivering what the fans want.

My name is Justin Stayton, I am 21 years old, and no, I don’t usually talk this way. I just have a thing for grandiose statements and sarcasm. It’s nice to meet you.

I really have been working here, and my proof can be found throughout the system.

Locking is a nifty new feature that prevents two members from editing (or deleting, or publishing) the same record (whether it be sermon, or event, or whatever) at the same time. The details can still be viewed, but a message informs you that the record is locked by your church secretary, Glenda, and disables your ability to make changes. While slightly annoying when you’re just trying to fix a misspelled word, you will thank me for saving you from accidentally overwriting all of Glenda’s changes.

Notices have also been unveiled to give you a better warning when the system is going down for maintenance, or we just feel like saying Hello. So keep your eyes on your Dashboard! (And we even have the option of sending you an e-mail notice too.)

For the grand finale, let me just say this: Discussions. Like the premise of Cloverfield, however, it’s top secret.

Since I began here at Monk five months ago, a lot of exciting projects have been undertaken, but I can’t wait to see what’s in-store for the next five. You'll want to stay tuned.

Justin Stayton, better known as Jark, is a Software Developer who enjoys waking up, putting on his suit and tie, and walking three steps to his office on the other side of his bedroom.

2007 National New Churches Conference

Breakout session 3 Tueday 300 to 400pm

Brad Abare (Center for Church Communication & Church Marketing Sucks) and I did the session: Get the Word out! What every church planter needs to know about communication. Brad covered a lot of principles of communication (influenced
by Tipping Point - Gladwell, Purple Cow - Godin, Mind Your X's and Y's
- Lisa Johnson). I brought some of the practical perspective from
church planting and other peoples church planting experience. We also
used websites as an example of how some of these principles play out.
The downside of the session was it's not recorded and this pdf is
missing (1) videos used, (2) a lot of the context and (3) stories from
church planters to connect this. So it may come across more pragmatic
then the intended. But alas,enjoy.

Breakout session 6 Thursday 845 to 945am

More and more we need to see the internet as a mission field. As our
culture moves increasingly online, this presentation discusses how
churches can be missionaries to unbelievers, gather the unchurched and
connect with their community. This is a session I did last week at the
National New Church Conference. The session wasn't recorded but a lot
of Q&A occurred as much of the information was new for the
audience. Feel free to post if you have questions.

Sermon Videos are being released to the internet at a ferocious pace. One of the reasons for this is that Ekklesia 360 allows you to host your video and publish it to your church website. Some examples include:

http://northstarpc.org/resources/messages/ or http://thesprings.org/sermon/balancing-the-debt-see-saw

In order to do this you simple need to use the __videopopup__ tag in the API. This will create a link to a popup flash video player. Here is an example of how you could use it:

__videopopup width='400' height='360'__

It is important to note that you need to have your video in Flash Video format but there are many tools out there to help you create .flv files. Some help to do that can be found here.

Ekklesia 360 now gives you the ability to upload sermons to your main church website and have your off site campus websites pull from the same list of sermons. Audio, video, RSS feeds and documents all seem to be unique to your campus website but are indeed simply frontend to your main sermon database.

Say you belong to a church with a website called www.spiritchurch.com and there are three off site locations in different parts of the same city with websites called east.spiritchurch.com, west.spiritchurch.com and www.spiritedyouthgroup.com. Each of your campus websites may have different styles and messages depending on the intended audience, but all share a common message thread preached by your senior pastor on Sundays. All your Ekklesia admin needs to do is upload the sermon with notes, video or documents to www.spiritchurch.com and all your sub sites will be updated with the same sermon in the following way:

www.spiritchurch.com/sermon/how-to-read-the-bible

east.spiritchurch.com/sermon/how-to-read-the-bible

www.spiritedyouthgroup.com/sermon/how-to-read-the-bible

All these sites may have different navigations, graphics, about pages and more, but they all share the same sermon content.

Every time a gallery is updated, an XML file is delivered to your media folder which can be accessed directly from your Slide Show Pro swf file.

Let's say you create a gallery and name it 'My Photo's from Hawaii', the XML file will be called: ssp-my-photos-from-hawaii.xml. Every Slide Show Pro xml file has the ssp- prefix. Go for it!
